Someone stole a fully wrapped radio station vehicle
The company we work for, Townsquare Media, has markets all over the country, including one in Billings, Montana, which has about 16,000 more residents than Davenport. Still, their issues with station vehicles aren’t far off from ours, which you can read more about below.
This week, one of the staff, Mix 97.1’s Josh Rathsaid he received a photo from a friend of the vehicle from his station about 20 miles from the station building.
“Honestly, I was somewhat surprised, but not shocked to see it somewhere (assuming one of our fantastic account executives has it). However, he did mention that it honked at him and he was just acting… weird,” Rath said in his write-up.
The Mix 97.1 station vehicle is a well-marked, pink-wrapped 2022 Kia Sportage.
He said they didn’t think much about it, because of the number of people in their building who might have driven him.
It wasn’t until the station received a call from a woman at a church in Ballantine (about 25 minutes from Billings) saying there was a strange-looking man walking around the car and kicked the tires. She said she had already called the police.
The suspect was arrested and then published because Billings Jail is too full.
This again begs the question, How? ‘Or’ What did this guy get the key to the vehicle?
“One elevator in particular, that night the locking mechanism on the 23rd floor just wasn’t working, so he was able to get all the way to the 23rd floor,” Josh Rath said.
From there, the suspect had a screwdriver on him that was just the right size to pop the lock on the backdoor to the office.
The suspect entered and found the key lying on a desk. He took the key and a t-shirt as he left the radio station.
No damage was done to the vehicle except that the suspect was smoking cigarettes inside.
This year alone, in the Townsquare Quad Cities building, two station vehicles were vandalized – the 97X Truck earlier in the year and I-Rock 93.5 Truckwhich was just vandalized this week.
The 97X truck had one of the two catalytic converters cut out, which isn’t the easiest thing to track down once it’s turned into a junkyard for cash.
On Sunday night, a shirtless man threw a large rock at the I-Rock 93.5 truck, damaging the hood, breaking the windshield and landing on the truck’s hood.
Check out the video of the guy throwing that huge boulder like nothing happened:
