Start a new journey | Teachers’ lounge radio show

Our Teachers’ Lounge podcast is now on the radio! We’ve got all the Illinois teacher interviews and education stories you love — plus all-new segments — now in a one-hour monthly show on WNIJ the last Friday of every month at 11 a.m. You can also listen here, now!

Aubrey Barnett has just completed her first year of teaching at Flinn Middle School in Rockford. It was sort of the culmination of his work in mental health and his work in a more experimental school. Now she was in a huge public school wondering if her beliefs about education were going to work. Listen to find out!

And Rachel Metcalfe! She had a busy few months between finishing a masters degree and teaching students AT HER OLD SECONDARY SCHOOL in the SAME CLASS WHERE SHE LEARNED ENGLISH. With the same teachers who used to grade her essays when she was 16. One of his students even gave him an unforgettable gift at the end of the year. It was a unique, strange and enriching experience!

We’re also bringing you more education stories and, as promised, a brand new segment – Class Match! Erik Czerwin returns to each episode to document what it feels like to go through a school year – especially one as strange as this. Unfortunately, it’s summer, so the class correspondent will do it in August. Let them enjoy their vacation!

If you’ve never listened before, our show is based on an idea – we’ve all had teachers in our lives who shaped who we are. And we want to hear from the teachers who inspired you. Every educator we have on the Teacher Show, whether teacher, coach, counselor or professor, is nominated by our listeners.

So tell us about the person that comes to mind. Email us and nominate an educator at [email protected] and they could be on the show!

Don’t worry, the podcast isn’t going anywhere. You can still watch episodes every other Friday on WNIJ.org or wherever you get podcasts.

Also, please sign up for our Teachers’ Fair newsletter here where you can stay up to date with the show and share stories you think we should cover!
